Dr. V. Jayaraman

Dr V. Jayaraman graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, University of Madras. He did his MS (by Research) from IIT, Madras, and PhD in physics from Bangalore University. He also holds a Diploma in Management from the All India Management Association (AIMA), New Delhi.

Dr Jayaraman started his career in ISRO in 1971 as an electronics design engineer for X-ray Astronomy Payload in India’s first satellite, ARYABHATA; and later, held major positions in ISRO such as Systems Engineer, BHASKARA I & II; Principal Systems Engineer (Payload, Mission & Ground Segment), IRS-1A; Director, Earth Observations System; Director, ISRO Geo-sphere Biosphere Programme; Director, NNRMS-Regional Remote Sensing Service Centres; and Director, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad.

Dr. Jayaraman also had a short stint in UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia & the Pacific (UN ESCAP), Bangkok, and continues to be a Senior Consultant to UN ESCAP. He is well known in global Earth Observation community through his active contributions in Committee on Earth Observations Satellites (CEOS) and Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS).

He is a Fellow of many professional bodies such as Indian National Academy of Engineering; Indian Society of Remote Sensing; AP Akademy of Sciences; Institution of Engineers: Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers. He is a Member of INAE Governing Council. He has many publications with over 90 of them appearing in national and international journals.

Currently, he is positioned in ISRO Headquarters as a distinguished professor on an advisory role in matters related to space technology and applications. He is also a Member of the Advisory Committee for Space Sciences (ADCOS), the apex body for space science activities in the country
