The 9th MGA Conference was held in Jakarta, Indonesia

The 9th Multi-GNSS Asia (MGA) Conference was held in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 9-11. It was attended by 186 participants from 20 countries. The theme of this year's conference was "Next Generation Multi-GNSS Resilient Solutions for Sustainable Development." The participants not only shared knowledge but also engaged in several discussions.

1) Application Open to the Public for Y-ISEF, Side Event of ISEF2

The Cabinet Office, MEXT, METI, and JAXA are hosting the side events of the second International Space Exploration Forum (ISEF2) to be held on March 3, 2018. Concerted efforts are taking place to prepare for the events, which are designed to inspire younger generations and industrial communities around the world.

Y-ISEF, organized by MEXT and JAXA, and scheduled to be held from February 28 through March 3, 2018, provides a platform for open discussions and networking, addressing the future of space exploration. Opportunities will open up to participants, around 80 young professionals and students, aged 18 to 35, to exchange ideas with influential visionaries and leaders from the global political, academic, and business arenas.

2) Cambodia Hopes to Launch First Satellite by the year 2021 or 2022

During a workshop meeting on October 16, 2017, at the Hotel Cambodiana, the representatives of Cambodia's Ministry of Post and Telecom (MoPT), the Telecom Regulator of Cambodia (TRC), and the country's key stakeholders in the telecommunications, broadcasting, and technology sectors discussed the benefits and prospect of launching the country's first communication satellite.

According to the Khmer Times, Mr. Im Vutha, spokesman for TRC, said that it will cost approximately $150 million to put the satellite into orbit, with the satellite having a lifespan of at least 15 years, and that the feasibility study will be ready within a year. Mr. Vutha went on to say that TRC is partnering with The China Great Wall Industry Corporation and the Royal Blue Skies of Cambodia and are planning to launch their first Cambodian satellite by the year 2021 or 2022.

3) ICC-21on RESAP Held at UN-ESCAP

From October 9-12, 2017, as a part of UN-ESCAP's Disaster Resilience Week, the 21st session of the Intergovernmental Consultative Committee (ICC-21) on the Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (RESAP) was held in conjunction with the fifth session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR-5) in Bangkok. The member countries of ICC-21 reviewed and discussed the proposed draft of the Asia-Pacific Plan of Action for Space Applications (2018-2030), which builds on the existing work of RESAP, with the objective of further promoting regional cooperation regarding the use of space technology applications and geospatial information systems. In addition, ICC-21 and CDRR-5 held a joint session on regional cooperation for promoting space technology and geospatial data applications for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction.
