Selecting students in India to participate in Water Rocket Competition in APRSAF-14

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be hosting the 14th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-14) in Bangalore in November 2007. On the eve of this forum and also as part of celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Space Age, a 'Water Rocket Making and Launching Event' will be held in Bangalore for students from the Asia-Pacific countries.

Two high school students from Bangalore will be selected to participate in this Asia-Pacific competition.

To select these students, a preliminary round of the 'Water Rocket Making and Launching Event' will be conducted during September and October 2007 for students of high schools based in Bangalore.

To shortlist the students who will take part in this preliminary round of competition, a written quiz on space and astronomy was held on Sunday August 26, 2007.

Sixteen students from thirteen Bangalore-based high schools who won the quiz are preparing for the preliminary round in Bangalore.

At the same time, 28 Bangalore-based high schools, which responded to the ISRO's Press Release on the Water Rocket Event, have been requested to nominate one student (in the age group of 8-11) from their higher primary section for the painting and poster competition.

Mr. B R Guruprasad, Public Relations Officer of ISRO, who planned these events, talked about the eagerness of the local students to participate in the Water Rocket Competition during ASRSAF-14.
