APRSAF-18
Asians in Space:
Achievements of Human Spaceflight in Asian Countries
APRSAF-18 Side Event
8 December 2011, 18:00-20:00
at Science Centre Singapore (SCS), MAXWELL Auditorium
We are pleased to announce that, in conjunction with the eighteenth session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-18), to be held in Singapore from 6 to 9 December 2011, we will organize a special event together with the Association of Space Explorers (ASE) to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of human spaceflight.
Human space flight is one of the milestone achievements of humanity, inspiring people around the world across the generations and motivating especially young people to pursue higher goals in their life. What has been accomplished by space explorers represents not only the forefront of scientific and engineering achievement but also the incredible physical and psychological strength of human beings as well as the beauty and power of cooperation among nations. It is no wonder why astronauts were recognized as "envoys of mankind" in the Outer Space Treaty as early as 1967.
While the human spaceflight was led by the two spacefaring nations following the dawn of the Space Age, many countries, including about 10 in Asia, had their nationals experience spaceflight. With their unique experiences in outer space, the space explorers are in an exceptional position to influence the society, people and civilizations. It is with this conviction that this special event is being organized to recognize the magnificent contributions that space explorers can make to enhance the society in Asia and to advance our civilizations.
Objectives
This special event will aim to:
- increase public awareness of the achievements of space explorers;
- establish a closer link between the network of space explorers and the APRSAF community;
- identify the ways and means to maximize the positive impact of space explorers in Asia on the advancement of the society.
