Mr.TANAKA Hiroo

Mr. Tanaka, Hiroo is the Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since October 2024.

He has three master’s degrees as academic background which are Mechanical Engineering (1992), Business Administration (2006) and International Political Economics (2010) respectively got from Hokkaido University, Tokyo Metropolitan University and Waseda University. He started his professional career in oil and gas exploration engineering services as a field engineer of Schlumberger Wireline Services (Ltd.) in the North Sea.

He joined JICA in 1996, and worked at overseas office twice, once in Indonesia in 1998-2002 as a representative and the other once in Thailand in 2016-2018 as the Chief Representative. He served as the Chief Secretary to the President of JICA from 2016 to 2022. Then he became the Director General for Infrastructure Development Management before promoted to the present position.

He has duty on enhancing JICA’s technical cooperation in general, and specially focusing on science & technology cooperation and exploring new field of cooperation such as in space, cyber & clean energy development.
