The thirteenth Session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-13 was convened under the main theme entitled "Work Together, Building a Secure and Prosperous Society" with the aim to bring together participating agencies from the region to join hands and cooperate in the use of space activities for the common cause.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Research and Technology of Indonesia (RISTEK), National Instituite of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), APRSAF-13 gathered more than 150 participants from about 55 entities in 18 countries and from 8 international organizations.
At the plenary Session on Day-1, following the Welcome Remarks expressed by Dr. Adi Sadewo, Chairman of LAPAN, the two Keynote Speeches were delivered by Dr. Bambang Setiadi, Deputy for Research on Science and Technology Program, RISTEK on behalf of H. E. Dr. Kusmayanto Kadiman, State Minister for RISTEK. and Mr. Toshiaki Endo, Senior Vice Minister for MEXT, respectively.
Throughout the active presentations and discussions on Plenary Session including the Status report of the Sentinel-Asia Project on Day-1, and the four working groups sessions on Earth Observation, Communication Satellite Applications, Space Education and Awareness, and the International Space Station (ISS) on Day-2, all the participants of APRSAF-13 adopted the Recommendations of APRSAF-13 as below, and APRSAF-13 was successfully closed its 3- day program on 7th December 2006.
As the Joint Educational Activities for primary and secondary school students and teachers, the second APRSAF Water Rockets Event will be held from 7 to 9 December at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (MII), Science & Technology Center (PIPTEK) and it will be followed by the Space Education Seminar, held from 11 to 12 December, jointly organized by JAXA and UNESCO, with the support of LAPAN.
The results of APRSAF-13 and its side-events will be reported soon.
APRSAF-14 will be held in Bangalore, India and co-hosted by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
