1. Establishment of Department of Space Technology (DST), Lao People's Democratic Republic
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Department of Space Technology (DST) was set up in early April 2008 in the National Authority for Science and Technology (NAST) under the Prime Minister's Office of Lao People's Democratic Republic (LAO PDR). DST will conduct the overall Management and Administration of Space Technology in Lao PDR. DST consists of three divisions: the General Affairs Division; the Space and Terrestrial Affairs Division; and the Service Management Division.

2. Celebrating 25 years of International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

On December 5, 2008, the ICIMOD will mark its 25th anniversary of working for mountains and people in the Hindu Kush-Himalayan region.
ICIMOD is celebrating its silver jubilee with a year-long series of events focused on raising awareness of the effects of climate change and the need to enhance the adaptation and resilience of mountain communities.

3. News from Republic of Korea (First Astronaut: After Coming Back from Space)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

News from Republic of Korea (Korea) about the latest status on Korea's first astronaut is as follows.

After coming back from the International Space Station in April, Dr. Yi So-yeon, the first Korean astronaut, has had her physical status checked at hospital for a few weeks. Returning to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), she has started her busy schedule as a senior researcher and as the first Korean astronaut.
She now performs research activities and gives public lectures. She reported the results of the 18 experiments she had performed at the ISS on June 12 at KARI. She gives lectures on her experiences in the ISS to the Korean public including students, industries and public officers.
She will contribute to raising public awareness in Korea about the importance of space development and space activities.
