1. Call for Participation, SAFE (Space Applications For Environment)
Prototype Activity
------------------------------------------------------------------------
SAFE (Space Applications For Environment) is a voluntary-based initiative in the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to encourage environmental monitoring on a long-term scale to grasp environmental changes and to mitigate global warming hazards by using space applications especially for remote sensing technology. SAFE was officially endorsed at the 15th Session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-15), held in Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, Vietnam.

As an advocator of SAFE, JAXA has announced a call for participation.
This announcement aims to distribute a draft of SAFE Implementation Plan (IP) and ask the APRSAF members to join in SAFE's prototype activities. And in the upcoming first workshop of SAFE, both IP and new prototype proposals will be reviewed on the SAFE website.

by Dr. T. Mussabayev, Chairman of the Kazakh Space Agency (Kazcosmos)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Implementation of space activities by countries in the Asian-Pacific region is one of the major factors for assuring the world's sustainable development. As an Asian country, the Republic of Kazakhstan is actively developing its space activities. A guiding line of this development of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the “Strategy for Industrial-Innovative Development of Kazakhstan,” scheduled to run till 2015. Our country has also stated the aim of having Kazakhstan become one of the top 50 competitive countries of the world. Realizing these aims will be possible only because of scientific-technical and innovative progress, in which the important role belongs to scientific and hi-tech space activities.
