3. Report on IAC

The APRSAF Secretariat participated in the 60th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), Daejeon, Republic of Korea held from 12 to 16 October 2009 and ran a booth at the venue. A report on the congress is now available on the APRSAF Website.

4. News from the People's Republic of Bangladesh

'World Space Week-2009 Celebrated at Enayetpur'

World Space Week is to celebrate the contribution of space technology to the development of humankind. During the week, there are many space-related events and education programmes worldwide.

In Bangladesh, the World Space Week was held from 9 to 10 October 2009. Many students, teachers and space enthusiasts participated and enjoyed events such as contests for Space Arts, Air Rockets, Balloon Rockets and Water Rocket. The report of the events is available on this page:

5. LAPAN Plans to Launch New Satellites
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The National Institute of Aeronautics and Space of Indonesia (LAPAN) held a seminar on launch vehicles, satellite development and space technology applications on 29 July. There, Mr. Sowearto Hardhienata, Deputy Technology Director, announced that the "Lapan-A2", earth observation satellite and "Lapan-Orari",
amateur radio satellite would be launched in 2011 and the "Rocket Pengorbit Satelit(RPS)", satellite launch vehicle, currently under development, would be launched in 2014 respectively. The "Lapan-A2"'satellite for disaster monitoring' is called "Twinsat (Satelit Kembar)" and is to be launched by ISRO's launch vehicle based on the cooperation agreement between LAPAN and ISRO. About 200 people participated in the seminar, including teachers, junior and senior high school students, and parties concerned with the Ministry of Research and Technology Indonesia (RISTEK).

LAPAN is also planning to establish two new ground stations in Kototabang, West Sumatra and Parepare, South Sulawesi. Lapan now owns and operates two ground stations in Rumpin, West Java and Biak, Papua.
