1. First Circular -- GUAS-JAXA Asian Winter School 2009

The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (GUAS, or Sokendai), School of Physical Science, Space and Astronautical Science, will have an open lecture on "Frontiers of Space Sciences" at JAXA Sagamihara Campus as a part of GUAS Asian Winter School 2009.
This open campus program aims at encouraging young researchers in Asian countries including Japan. Please circulate this information to those who will be interested in.

4. "The Second Joint Workshop on Small Satellite" was held in Tokyo, Japan in Nov 2009

"The Second Joint Workshop on Small Satellite" was held in the Campus Innovation Center Tokyo, in Tamachi, Tokyo, Japan on 9 November, 2009. The 4-hour workshop programme included 6 reports on small satellite piggybacked on GOSAT, 4 presentations of small satellites to be launched with PLANET-C in 2010, free discussion and so on. With more than 100 participants, it included a lively exchange of opinions and Q & A, especially during a free discussion session.

5. Dr. K. Radhakrishnan takes over as Secretary, Department of Space, Chairman, Space Commission and Chairman, ISRO

Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Member, Space Commission and Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, assumed the office of Chairman, Space Commission, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO on 31 October, 2009.
He is an accomplished technocrat with a distinguished career of more than 38 years in the fields of space technology, applications and space programme management. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Kerala University (1970) and obtained his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore
(1976). He was awarded a PhD by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in the year 2000.

6. Sri Lanka signed the MOU with SSTL for space capability
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
A memorandum of agreement (MOU) for the acquisition of a national satellite capability to Sri Lanka was signed between Surry Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka on 12 November, 2009.
The above MOU, starting the Sri Lankan national space capability by providing an SSTL Earth Observation satellite and commencing the definition and design of Sri Lanka’s first communication satellite, was signed by Mr. Priyantha Karriyapperuma, Director General of TRCSL and Professor Sir Martin Sweeting, Group Executive Chairman, SSTL.
