1. News on APRSAF

- APRSAF-17 to begin soon
As of November 17, more than 200 people from 26 countries, as well as from 7 international organizations, have registered for APRSAF-17. Therefore, we would like to show our appreciation for this participation. We look forward to seeing you in Melbourne.

- Space education seminar in Bangladesh
The seminar “Space Science and Technology and Their Applications in Classrooms” will be held from January 17 to 19, 2011, in Dhaka and Enayetpur, Bangladesh. The event is jointly organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Society (BAS) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF).

2. Vietnamese Prime Minister signs a law to set up the Vietnam Space Committee

On September 21, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Vietnam announced that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had signed a law to set up the Vietnam Space Committee. According to the law, the committee will play a coordinating role to carry out research and application of space technology as one of the national strategies. Further, the Vietnam Space Committee will be an international representative of the country in the field of space technology.

3. Indian and Russian companies sign MOU on GLONASS
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
An Indian company, HBL Power Systems, and Russian Navigation Information Systems (NIS GLONASS) signed an MOU to promote utilization of the Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS. The MOU was signed at the Bengaluru Space Expo 2010, which was held from August 25 to 28 in Bengaluru.

4. ETRI completes COMS-1 in-orbit test of communication payload
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
On September 9, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) of Korea announced that it had completed the in-orbit test of the communication payload onboard the Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite 1 (COMS-1), which was launched on June 26. From July 6 to August 26, a review meeting attended by the KT corporation, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), etc., was held to analyze the condition and performance of both the satellite antenna and the communication transponder in detail. The analysis proved that these components had been functioning normally.

5. Satellite receiving station inaugurated at ICIMOD
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
A new satellite receiving station was inaugurated at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) in Nepal on October 3. The satellite receiving station is equipped with a high-speed communication link, and it will receive data from satellites in Japan, India, Thailand, Taiwan, and Korea. In particular, the station will help to improve disaster response efforts and responses in areas without sufficient communication infrastructure.

6. Call for Application - SOKENDAI Asian Winter School 2010
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The Department of Space and Astronautical Science of the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI) will organize the Asian Winter School for the students and young researchers in the Asian countries, who are interested in space science. The School will be open from February 15 to 17, 2011 on the JAXA Sagamihara campus.

The school includes lectures by the Professors in the department as well as presentations and discussions by the participants.
