2. News on APRSAF: APRSAF Poster Calendar 2013

The APRSAF Space Education and Awareness Working Group (SEA WG) has published the APRSAF Poster Contest Calendar 2013:

The drawings and paintings presented in this calendar have been selected from entries of children between the ages of 8 and 11 years for the seventh APRSAF Poster Contest, held under the theme “Friends in Space,” and displayed during the nineteenth session of APRSAF, held in Malaysia in December 2012.

Recently, articles of the visit of an Australian “Try Zero G” student to Tsukuba Space Center, student parabolic flight experiments, and feedback of Space Seeds program participants, among others, have been uploaded.

4. VNREDSat-1 to be launched by Vega
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Arianespace announced that Vietnam’s first earth observation satellite, VNREDSat-1 (Vietnam Natural Resources, Environment & Disaster Monitoring Satellite 1), would be launched during the second quarter of 2013 by the second Vega launcher from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana.

 

VNREDSat-1 weighs 120 kg and uses the Myriade (AstroSat-100) satellite bus. The satellite will be launched into a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 670 km.

5. India approves 33 sat and 25 rocket missions (2012–2017)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
On December 27, the National Development Council of India approved the twelfth five-year plan (2012–2017). According to the plan, India will launch 33 satellites including 8 earth observation satellites and 14 communication satellites, and 25 rockets during the period.

6. KSLV-1 successfully launches

The Korea Space Launch Vehicle (KSLV-1) was successfully launched from the Naro Space Center at the southern tip of Korea at 07:00 GMT on January 30. KSLV-1 carried the Science and Technology Satellite 2C (STSAT 2C) demonstration spacecraft.
