* 4. India to Launch Earthquake Prediction Satellite by 2019
+----------------------------------------------------------------+
The secretary of the Ministry of Earth Science of India, Dr. Shailesh Nayak, has announced that India will lead an international project involving 27 countries to develop a model early warning system for earthquakes. This model aims to predict earthquakes some seconds before they occur, using a combination of a satellite to monitor physical displacements on the earth surface and sensors installed in deep bore wells to detect chemical changes under the surface. The satellite, which will provide accuracy of up to a few centimeters, is expected to be launched by 2019.
