International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD)
What is ICIMOD
ICIMOD is the first international organisation to make a commitment to improve the living conditions of mountain inhabitants in a sustainable way, helping them to live and not merely exist upon the highest wonders on earth. The Centre is multidisciplinary, area-focussed and mountain-based; it concentrates mainly on the Hindu Kush-Himalayan Region. ICIMOD has much to offer, to the Hindu Kush-Himalayan Region as well as to other mountain egions facing similar problems.
ICIMOD was established in 1981 based upon
an agreement between His Majesty's Government of Nepal
and UNESCO signed in 1981. The Centre was inaugurated
in December 1983 and began operating in September 1984.
Nepal, the Federal Republic of Germany, Switzerland,
and UNESCO were the founding sponsors.

ACRS
Asian
Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS), the annual event
of the Asian
Association on Remote Sensing (AARS) is going to be
held in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, on November
25-29, 2002, to commemorate the
International Year of the Mountains 2002 declared
by the United Nations. The conference is expected to have
wide participation of the professionals from all over
Asia-Pacific region and abroad. The 23rd ACRS will provide
a forum for the participants in exchanging scientific
and academic experiences among them.
