Selecting students in Japan to participate in water rocket competition at APRSAF-14

The Space Education Center of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has selected some Japanese teams to participate in the water rocket competition and have international exchange with representative teams from other Asian countries in APRSAF-14, which will be held in Bangalore, India from November 23 to 25, 2007.

Each team was made up of one captain (or teacher) and two students. On July 21, 2007, the final competition was held and two teams won to become the Japanese representatives.

From August 27 to 28, these two Japanese teams received the following training at the JAXA Space Education Center to get ready for the water rocket competition:

1. Introduction to APRSAF
2. Lecture about space development and space science
3. Survival English
4. Introduction to India
5 Lecture about making and launching water rockets and practical test

The members of the Japanese teams are:
Yoshisato Kitamura, Hiroshima Kokutaiji High School, 1st year student (Hiroshima, Japan)
Misato Nishibayashi, Hiroshima Kokutaiji High School, 1st year student (Hiroshima, Japan)
Kenji Kadota, Saibi High School, 2nd year student (Ehime, Japan)
Rie Tanaka, Saibi High School, 2nd year student (Ehime, Japan)
Katsumi Chiba, Hiroshima Kokutaiji High School, teacher (Hiroshima, Japan)
Katsutarou Tanimoto, Saibi High School, teacher (Ehime, Japan)
