THEOS data distribution

After the launch of THEOS on 1 October, 2008, GISTDA is now ready for its data distribution. The three standard imagery products, namely System Corrected Level (1A), Geo- Corrected Level (2A), and Pan-sharpened, are now available. The value-added products, namely Stereo Image, Ortho Images as well as the Digital Elevation Model will be available in the near future. For Thai users THEOS data has been officially in service since June 2009, and the operational cost of THEOS data are offered to government’s high tasking priorities, such as having an MOU with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. One of GISTDA’s international marketing goals is to develop a worldwide network of reception and distribution of THEOS data by sending out Requests for Proposals to international agencies worldwide. At present all the received proposals are being reviewed.

To secure the availability and continuity of THEOS data, GISTDA has its own satellite and two ground linked stations, i.e. Ground Receiving Station at Lad Krabang, Bangkok, for THEOS, Landsat, Radarsat-1, and ALOS data, and the THEOS Control & Receiving Station at Sriracha, Chonburi province, for the first three mentioned satellite data. Apart from that GISTDA provides inclusive services by acting as a total solution provider and offering training courses for human capacity building in the area of space technology and geoinformatics. Furthermore, GISTDA cooperates internationally with other space agencies and international communities such as APRSAF, CEOS, GEO, COPOUS etc.

As for the sixteenth session of the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-16) will be held during January 26-29, 2009, in Bangkok, Thailand and jointly organized and co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of Thailand, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The side events of the forum co-organized by Thai agencies include a poster contest and a water rocket. The Poster Contest is being organized under the Space Education and Awareness Working Group (SEA WG) of APRSAF-16. Announcements have been posted and the deadline for submission is November 20, 2009. Prior to such contest, GISTDA campaigned for the participation of Thai children aged 8-11 years by delivering posters to about 2000 schools. The three selected posters representing Thailand will be submitted for inclusion in the APRSAF poster contest. For more information, please see the web site http://conference.gistda.or.th/aprsaf16/
