Interview with Mr. In-Kyu Jeon, Administrator of Policy, International Relations & Planning Division, International Relations Department, Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI)

The APRSAF Secretariat conducted an interview with Mr. In-Kyu Jeon, Administrator of Policy, International Relations & Planning Division, International Relations Department, Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) on the occasion of the IAC2009 held from 12 to 16 October, 2009, in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

Space-related activities/ events

KSLV was launched last August. We are planning to launch another one next year because it wasn't a 100% success, though the details have yet to be decided.

Space education programme

I think that is one of the big issues in KARI. We are now researching and developing our satellite and other programmes. Our president also has a keen interest in the education programme, which has not been perfectly established yet in Korea. We must also research other countries' education programmes as well. This Friday we will sign an MOU with the International Space University (ISU), whereupon we will send some engineers to ISU, though it is just beginning. We would like to find an opportunity to experience education programmes also elsewhere, such as via JAXA's programme, though it is not so easy for us to send our engineers to their programme on a practical basis.

STAR programme expectations/ suggestions

We will send our researchers there to learn and teach satellite programmes and techniques. They will also have the opportunity to exchange information with other participants, based on which I hope they can form good relationships with individuals from other countries.
