Session #1 : Space Economy
"Accelerating Space Economies through Regional Partnership"

Session Content:

  • Along the lines of the theme of APRSAF-29, "Accelerating Space Economies through Regional Partnership," the approach to Indonesia's future promotion of the country's engineering industries, and acceleration of space economies are introduced.
  • In addition, after the introduction of the space policy trends of each government with regard to the development of space economies, the panelists from the government, space agencies, and industry will exchange views on the importance of collaboration with diverse stakeholders, which is considered necessary for the development of the space economies in the Asia-Pacific region, and the importance of creating new value through the fusion of technologies and services in the space field and other fields, while considering the change in the state of space agencies (such as transformation into funding agencies).
  • Furthermore, taking into account the state of industrial trends in ASEAN countries, etc., discussions will be held about issues including not only intra-regional cooperation but also the need for extra-regional cooperation, such as the importance of global partnerships, for promoting the space economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Session #2 : Space Sustainability
"Sharing the Practices for Ensuring the Sustainable Use of Outer Space"

Session Content:

  • As the number of players participating in space-related activities is expected to increase, APRSAF has also set forth in its Nagoya Vision contribution to the global issues of ensuring the long-term sustainability of space activities and the stable use of outer space, in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • In June 2023, a joint report by 12 Asia-Pacific countries was submitted to the United Nation’s Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) as the second phase activity of the National Space Legislation Initiative (NSLI), which is an initiative of APRSAF. One of the topics covered in this report is the implementation status in each country of the long-term sustainability (LTS) guidelines for space activities.
  • Based on the expansion of various private sector activities, whether large or small, including start-ups, international organizations as well as the governments of various countries and private presenters will discuss the importance of collaboration between the private sector and government in addressing global issues such as the long-term sustainability of space activities and ensuring the sustainable use of outer space.

Session #3 : Climate Change + Session #4 : Natural Disasters
"How to Manage and Respond to Common Regional Issues through Partnerships with Diverse Players"

Session Content:

  • Satellite data, along with terrestrial data, are being used to contribute to the resolution of a wide range of terrestrial issues in the Asia-Pacific region, namely, satellite-based climate change mitigation and adaptation, disaster management and other global issues.
  • APRSAF has been working to solve common regional issues through the use of satellite data and through initiatives such as Sentinel Asia's contribution to disaster response. In addition, in the activities of "Space Applications For Environment" (SAFE), projects are being carried out through multilateral cooperation to solve common regional issues related to agriculture and water resources.
  • In these sessions, key persons from the Government, industry and international organizations will present the status of the impacts of climate change and natural disasters on the Asia-Pacific region's socio-economy, and the relevant solutions offered by the private sector.
  • We will then share the common regional social issues: a) how climate change can be understood and linked to effective management that can lead to the reduction of natural disasters in the future (Session 3), b) how effective responses can be promoted to mitigate human and material losses after the occurrence of natural disasters (Session 4), and discuss the possibility of launching a unique initiative, originating in the Asia-Pacific region, to realize the Nagoya Vision through collaboration among various players, including public and private sectors.

Session #5 : Future Generation
"Nurturing Future Generation for Sustainable Development of Space Activities in Asia-Pacific Region"

Session Content:

  • The global aerospace ecosystem is a continuously evolving environment, where APRSAF continue to adapt for constant value co-creation. One example of the evolution would be the participation of new players, where space education and youth outreach would play an even greater role to create talent pool demanded. Based on such development, in line with the main theme of APRSAF-29 “Accelerating Space Economies through Regional Partnership”, this session will focus on development of critical thinking, collaboration skills and other essential 21st century skills through educational activities, with the goal of nurturing future generation for sustainable development of space activities in APAC region.
  • We understand the importance of inspiring our future generation through aerospace development, for the sustainable socio-economic development of APAC region. We believe that an inclusive aerospace development in APAC region can be sustainably achieved through continuous STEM education activities, from grass-root community organizing, formal education curriculum, initiatives by industry to region-level cooperation. We envision that such goal could be realized by participation in global space market supported by capable national/regional industrial base, and leveraging each stakeholder’s comparative advantage, to provide abundant career opportunities.
  • Based on the above understandings, and incorporating 4 goals of Nagoya Vision, this session will invite all panelists from government, private, and academia to share and discuss current and planned educational activities. Through open knowledge exchange, this session will contribute for further development of education activities, with higher emphasis on developing critical thinking capabilities, from primary education age children to up-and-coming professionals. Furthermore, current and future provisions for conducive educational ecosystem that facilitate consistent flow of educational activities for diverse audience may also be developed from this dynamic exchange.
  • Building up on this session, intercultural, intersectional, and global exchange element should also be considered, as the basis of region-level capacity building driven by future generations, creating enhanced globally minded talent pool and future career opportunities with potential industrial base as foundation, ready to accept such talents. Finally, this session will explore expectations future APRSAF activities and higher level possibilities, such as possible integration with national education, economic development, or equivalent master plan of individual nation.
